One of my dear friends who happens to be a professional chef just turned 31 yesterday, so as a gift I made him a custom knife roll. I had his girlfriend take photos of all of his knives by a ruler so I could get the measurements and make the roll exactly to their specifications.
There’s space for his 9 knives, in addition to his fork, scissors and sharpening rod. The scissors and paring knife fit up top, and beside them is a detachable gadget case that can hold things like a thermometer or silicone brush. It has D rings so that it can hang on the line while he’s working.
I added a bonus little pocket since I had room, and designed a simple but elegant logo with his initials to laser engrave on the pocket.
The knives are designed to be sheathed in the leather slots (rather than how some knife rolls have them with the blades out). I added a leather panel for added protection and to make sure nothing falls out, along with a snap to secure the leather panel.
I also added an extra D ring at what would be the inside side of the knife roll so that the entire roll can be hung up with the knives still held in place, for easy access and a tidy work space.
I added the logo I designed for him on the front of the roll too, so that no one accidentally takes his roll by accident 🙂
In addition to the removable, adjustable shoulder strap, there’s a very heavy-duty carry handle with three layers of leather both stitched and riveted in place for added security.
I had a lot of fun researching what sort of features would be beneficial for this product, and he was absolutely thrilled with it when he opened it!
